It is essential that Giffords be elected to represent this congressional district. She is absolutely in touch with voters in this district, both intellectually and emotionally. She understands the wide range of interest and sentiment in this extremely diverse district. She is able to understand because she is smart, she listens, she observes, and she thinks. She is no person’s, and no entity’s, pawn. I have heard her speak many times, and can say without qualification that she is the best person for the job. She is a true public servant, and southern Arizona would lose a valuable asset if we did not reelect Gabrielle Giffords.
So what’s Kelly’s support group going to say, “We’re sorry, but our candidate is so far out in right field that we can’t muster independents’ support—and thus, he’s trailing Giffords by at least 17 percent”?
Unlikely that that would be their announcement. Even if it was true, which it very well may be, sources tell me.
“Giving someone else a chance” just to be nice is a silly proposition. Giffords has done her job well and done well by the District. Kelly, on the other hand, is—as stated above—rather a loose cannon to the right of the Republican Party.
What do we get by “giving him a chance” except an end to Medicare, an end to Social Security as we know it, and the sure news that he’s sucking up to the Feds to get recovery money while at the same time decrying its availability (to his company’s competition, I guess)? Sounds like he should give someone else a chance to run as a Republican, a party label that used to mean more than emulating Attila the Hun.
