Tail-waggers of the week: Peggy & Peter

Meet a couple of the many great companions available at our local animal rescue groups:  Peggy and Peter.

Peggy

Peggy, age two and a half, is a very happy, fun girl. This "good as gold" pit-mix is also a devoted, affectionate companion.

She was in very poor shape when she was rescued — emaciated — and her body showed the signs of a dog who had been over bred, used and abused. Whatever happened to Peggy in the past she holds no grudges. She just adores her people and gives so much love in return. She likes to play and at first shows a lot of enthusiasm to see you and will give tons of kisses just to show how happy she is. She calms pretty quickly and truly wants to please so does her best to listen to you when you tell her to do something. She loves walks and car rides.

Since she was frequently mated in her previous life, she is a little cautious of dogs she doesn't know. Once she has determined a dog is her friend, however, she's a playful goof and enjoys the companionship of another canine. She has no resource guarding issues at all and is happy to share her food, toys and treats. Still, Peggy's first love will always be you. She would likes nothing more than to just be in your presence, cuddle up with you, or lay contently at your feet.

Peggy can be trusted to be left alone. She does not need a crate, she just just lies calmly and nicely in her bed and sleeps waiting for your return. She is not a loud barking dog, so she would do fine in noise sensitive neighborhoods or associations. If she barks she is trying to alert her family that something is not right. She does have a little storm anxiety but she settles pretty well.

PEGGY is spayed, microchipped and current on all of her shots. Her adoption fee is only $50.

If you or someone you know is interested in Peggy, please contact Lifeline Oro Valley Animal Rescue, 520-979-2282, and schedule a meet and greet or have her brought to you for a home visit.

Peter

Peter is a lovable, hugable, Great Pyrenees/Saint Bernard mix (best guess). At approximately 18-months-old, he weighs 75pounds and is gaining.

Peter and female friend were found as strays. He is extremely friendly with an easy-going, calm disposition — just a gorgeous gem of a dog.

Peter is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is only $50. If you or someone you know is interested in Peter, please contact Lifeline Oro Valley Animal Rescue, 520-979-2282, and schedule a meet and greet or have him brought to you for a home visit.

Save a life

Most Tucson rescues are small, volunteer-based non-profit groups who rely on the community to fulfill their mission to save animals lives. Not only do they count on donations from the public to cover costs, they depend on people who are willing to open their hearts and homes to needy animals until they are ready for adoption. If you are interested in saving a life by becoming a foster, you can let local rescues know by registering at Saferlifeline.org.
