Win tickets: Go behind the scenes of 'The Lost World of Industrial Musicals'

Movies you weren't meant to see: internal company promotional films for conventions and sales meetings used to be elaborate productions, many with original music. Take a peek at some of these lost clips on Saturday as you watch "The Lost World of Industrial Musicals." And you could win a pair of tickets to the one-night-only screening.

From our friends at the Loft Cinema:

Welcome to the Lost World of Industrial Musicals! Comedian/collector/writer Steve Young (“Late Show with David Letterman,”  “The Simpsons”) has been acquiring rare and hilariously twisted films of corporate musical info-tainment from the golden age, and he’s going out on the road to present the cream of the crop with informative and humorous live commentary! It’s an evening of astonishing and hilarious cinema that can’t be seen anywhere else!  Copies of Steve’s book, Everything’s Coming up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals will also be available for sale and signing at this event.

Get ready for the mutant offspring of Broadway and business!  “The Bathrooms Are Coming!”  “Diesel Dazzle!”  “Got to Investigate Silicones!”  For decades, corporations commissioned strange “industrial musicals” – original shows about selling bathtubs, tractors, gasoline, and pretty much everything else – that were only meant to be seen by insiders at conventions and sales meetings.  When “Late Show with David Letterman” and “The Simpsons” writer Steve Young began finding obscure corporate musicals while gathering albums for the “Dave’s Record Collection” segment on “Late Show,” he had no idea of the journey he was beginning.  Now, twenty years and one book later (the incredible coffee table book, Everything’s Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals, co-written with Sport Murphy) , author/collector Steve is the world’s leading authority on these bizarrely entertaining shows created for company conventions and sales meetings from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.  He’s been a guest on NPR’s “Fresh Air” and Dave Letterman’s “Late Show,” he does presentations at conventions and festivals, and he loves to screen ultra-rare films from his collection.   Thrill to hilarious and twisted musical propaganda from General Electric, Kellogg’s, Citgo, American-Standard, Purina, and more, with Steve’s informative and hilarious live commentary.  It’s a secret world of Americana that will astonish, amuse, perplex—and make you want to get out there and sell something!  And no, you won’t find any of this on YouTube, so miss this at your own peril!  (Total running time: 90 mins., Not Rated)

The movie will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
