My favorite was probably Orange Crush, though the whole Green album was pretty good.
@Bret Linden
I might go with Orange Crush myself. Saw them play the TCC during the Green tour; it was an amazingly rockin’ show for a band that had up ‘til then developed an unrockin’ rep.
Also in contention: Feeling Gravity’s Pull, The One I Love, Driver 8, Turn You Inside Out, Exhuming McCarthy, and a bunch of others. Yet nothing from about the last 2 decades - probably time to wrap it up, indeed.
@Dylan Smith
You really think they’re wrapping it up, though? Bands very rarely ever truly break up…most of them just “call it quits” to lay the groundwork to build demand for their inevitable forthcoming reunion tours.
I’m sticking with the 1st R.E.M. song I ever heard: Can’t Get There from Here.
@hoytherndon
Always a good one.
@Bret Linden
I’d imagine we’ll see them again at some point. I stopped paying attention when they got all Elton John piano-ballad-ish.
So. Central Rain is my favorite, although Exhuming McCarthy comes in a close second. My greatest memory of R.E.M. was purchasing their albums (early ones from Murmur to Green) and playing the tape over and over again trying to decipher Stipe’s lyrics with seemingly little luck. I still look at lyrics on the internet today and don’t know if they truly match up.
Nice try, spammer, but Stipe doesn’t want your garbage. - ed.
